Bakeware is everything between the mixing bowl and the cooling rack: round, square and springform cake tins, flat baking trays and slice pans, muffin and cupcake pans, loaf tins, pie and tart dishes, wire cooling racks, reusable silicone baking mats, and mixing bowls in nesting sizes.
What to check before you buy
Size matters more than most people expect, because recipes are written for a particular tin. Australian recipes commonly call for a 20 cm or 22 cm round tin, a 20 cm square pan or a standard 12-hole muffin tray, so match those first. Colour changes results too: dark, non-stick tins absorb more heat and brown faster, so many bakers check a few minutes early or lower the oven by around 10°C. Light aluminium trays give even, golden biscuits, while glass and ceramic dishes suit pies, crumbles and bakes that go straight to the table. A springform tin with a tight-fitting base makes cheesecakes easy to release. Before buying, measure the inside of your oven, including the width between the shelf supports, so large trays slide in without catching.
