Cookware covers the pots and pans that do the daily work on your cooktop: frypans and grill pans, saucepans with lids, stockpots for soups and stocks, enamelled cast iron Dutch ovens and casseroles, carbon steel and non-stick woks, stovetop pressure cookers, and matching cookware sets for a first kitchen or a full refresh.
What to check before you buy
Start with your cooktop. Induction needs a magnetic base, so if a fridge magnet sticks firmly to the underside of a pan, it will work; most stainless steel and cast iron does, while plain aluminium and copper usually need a bonded induction disc. Next, think about material. Stainless steel with an aluminium core is durable and handles high heat for searing. Cast iron holds heat well for slow braises but is heavy. Non-stick is easiest for eggs and delicate fish, and lasts longest on low to medium heat with silicone or timber utensils. Finally, confirm how hot the handles and lids can go in the oven, whether the pieces are dishwasher-safe, and the diameter in centimetres; a 24–28 cm frypan suits most households, and a 2–3 litre saucepan covers rice, sauces and vegetables.
